How to Care for Wooden Flooring

Wooden flooring is beautiful and durable and a much sought after feature in modern homes. After investing in wooden floors, there are a few things that you can do to keep them looking their best for as long as possible.

Dust Removal
Aim to sweep your floor every day to remove dust and grit that can build up quickly and lead to scratches in the finish of your floorboards. Place a doormat next to any external doors to allow people to remove the debris from their shoes before they come in.

Protect High Traffic Areas
Look out for any sections of flooring that seem to pick up scratches and scuffs more quickly and lay rugs or mats to protect the flooring in these areas.

Tackle Spillages Quickly
Act fast to avoid any spillages leaving a stain on your floor, but take care not to use much water when you’re cleaning up. If too much moisture gets into the wood it can cause the boards to expand and could lead to warping.

Even after following these steps, your flooring can still become worn, scratched and obscured by layers of wax and polish over the years. Sooner or later your floors may require a complete overhaul to bring them back to their best.

Here at Artisan Timber & Flooring we provide a renovation service during which we will assess the specific requirements of your floor, before sanding back the damaged surface and resealing it with lacquer or floor varnish in the most appropriate finish to suit your interior.
