What do I do when I receive my flooring?
Make sure you check if you have received the correct quantity and the condition of goods. Damage is rare but does occasionally happen.

Reporting damage or problems
Damage or delivery problems must be reported within 7 days of delivery. We cannot accept liability for any problems reported over 7 days.

Where do I store the packs of flooring?
For wood and laminate floors we recommend storing the packs in the room to allow for the acclimatisation process. You don’t have to unpack the packs for this process to work.

Cancellation

Orders must be cancelled within 24 hours of placing the order.

We accept Credit or Debit card except AMEX. We also accept Paypal and bank transfer.

Wood, Laminate and Vinyl flooring

What are the main differences between laminate, engineered and solid wood flooring?
Laminate and Vinyl flooring is usually cheaper than both engineered and solid flooring due to it not containing any real wood.

Laminate floors consist of high-density fibreboard usually around 10mm thick finished by ‘printing’ a picture of wood floor to give the appearance of real wood. Many laminates are water resistant and so are good choices for bathrooms, utilities and kitchens.

Engineered wood flooring consists of a ply base finished with a veneer of solid wood usually from 3-6mm. Most wood floors are engineered due to less problems with moisture and temperature and an easier production & installation process. Generally you can sand down a 4mm engineered wood floor 2-3 times and most of our products come with a 15-20 year warranty from the manufacturer.

Solid wood is cut from one piece of wood and does not consist of a ply base like engineered, its real solid wood throughout. Be careful with moisture as it acts like a sponge, expanding and contracting more than engineered wood floor. You can generally sand down a solid wood floor more times than an engineered wood floor depending on where the tongue and groove are placed on the planks.

Lacquered vs Oiled wood floor finish?
Lacquered is a modern day varnish which acts as a film over the surface of the timber. Best used for high-traffic areas such as restaurants and schools. Offered in a range of finishes lacquer can produce an ultra-shiny finish if desired.

Oiled floors are different in the way that the oil is absorbed into the wood as opposed to sitting on top of the timber like a lacquer. Best suited to residential, low traffic areas such as hallways, living rooms, bedrooms, etc. Often made from natural resources and results in a natural yet rich matt finish.

Samples

Do you send free samples? If so, how do I get them?
Yes! We send upto 3 free samples. You can add samples to your basket or request them through contacting us using our enquiry form, calling us or if available our live chat option.

Will the flooring be exactly as the sample?
A sample represents a small part of the flooring so it will give you a good idea of the tones, grade and general look of the floor. We recommend looking at pictures of the floor and if you still aren’t sure then ordering one pack to see if you like it before you purchase the full amount.

Do you have a showroom or bigger samples?
If you are local to Aylesbury, Bucks then why not see if we have a large sample board in our showroom and book an appointment to visit us? Contact us using this form, calling or if available our live chat.

How much flooring do I need?

Using a tape measure, measure each side of the room. Try and split the room into rectangles as this makes it easier. For example an L shaped room could be split into two rectangular areas. As you are doing this draw a basic outline with a pen and paper. Multiple the width by length to get the area of the room. Remember to subtract areas like fireplaces.

How much flooring should I allow extra for ‘waste’ do I need?
For standard wood, laminate and vinyl plank flooring we recommend 10% wastage.
For Herringbone & Chevron we recommend 15% for wastage.

Always check how much wastage your fitter recommends!

Consider the shape of your rooms too, the more complex with loads of turns, kitchen islands, stairs etc the more wastage you will require.

Preparing my subfloor

Underfloor heating
Check with your underfloor heating manufacture and the flooring manufacturer to see if your floor is compatible with their system. Most engineered floors are ok with underfloor heating but it’s important to read the manufacturers guides of both the underfloor heating company and the wood flooring manufacturer. If you require help with this then please contact us.

How do I prepare my subfloor?
The main factors to think about are:
-Do you have underfloor heating? Refer to the above point.
-Make sure the subfloor is level and use a level tool to check. Too many people skip this step, don’t ruin your floor by having an unlevel floor!
-Check the moisture content and use a damp proof membrane if required
-Make sure the area is clear of loose debris

There is more to subfloor preparation than these points so always check with your fitter, the manufacturer or us for further help.
