So, whats the difference between Solid and Engineered wood flooring?
Engineered wood flooring
Engineered flooring has a wear layer of real solid wood which has been carefully bonded to a structural engineered backing.
This gives it the benefit of having beautiful real wood whilst reducing the risk of temperature & moisture damage that Solid Wood is more susceptible to.
Engineered flooring is suitable for most types of Under Floor Heating due to its ability to transfer heat more efficiently.
Solid wood flooring
Solid wood flooring was the popular choice of flooring and is still commonly used throughout the flooring industry. The whole of the board is solid wood opposed to engineered boards which usually have a 3-8mm layer of solid wood.
Solid wood flooring acts as a sponge and is more susceptible to fluctuating in size due to moisture and temperature changes. We don’t recommend using solid wood for Under Floor Heating.
